Distribution Center Mill & Pave Project Near Raleigh, North Carolina
Project Summary
The Food Lion Distribution Center in Butner, NC is a busy facility located near I-85. Semi-trucks are hard on parking lots and this one was no exception. Years of heavy traffic led to a worn-down loading area and the employee parking lot also needed to be replaced. The owner's agent, Kevin, was ready to reset the clock with completely new pavement and mitigate future liability risks.
It can be nerve-racking to know exactly what you're paying for with large paving projects. Our account executive, Clay, sent Kevin a detailed map and scope of work showing both square footage and the new asphalt depth.
Executing The Project
PHASE 1: PLANNING & STRATEGY
When we arrived, we worked with the property's on-site team to address concerns about utility lines that crossed the middle of the project site. The work area was also blocked off in sections to allow for ongoing parking during each phase of construction.
PHASE 2: REMOVE EXISTING ASPHALT
1500 tons of old asphalt was milled at various depths based on different traffic needs.
PHASE 3: GRADING AND COMPACTING
Special attention was given to the back of the parking lot to improve the slope and help with drainage.
PHASE 4: PAVING
25,000 square feet was paved at 5" in the area used for loading and unloading tractor-trailers. 62,000 square feet was paved at 2" in the employee parking area.
PHASE 5: FINISHING TOUCHES
100 new concrete parking stops were installed and fresh parking lot lines were painted.
No Hand-Holding Required
When there are multiple stakeholders on a project, there's nothing more frustrating than working with a contractor who needs constant supervision. Our on-site team made it their goal to understand everyone's needs and bring all the pieces of the puzzle together.
