Project Summary

Bell Rock Plaza is a 50-storefront shopping district nestled among the iconic red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. The plaza experienced periodic flooding and needed an improved drainage system. The asphalt parking lot also needed to be replaced.

Spectrum Management Associates called Diamond Solutions to help navigate the project and provide a comprehensive overhaul to the property.

Executing The Project

PHASE 1: DRAINAGE SYSTEM INSTALLATION

The first phase of the project involved the complete removal of the existing drainage system and the installation of 400 linear feet of new storm drain piping and larger catch basins. The new piping was wider than the old piping to better accommodate the downhill flow of water.

AN AESTHETIC TOUCH

Diamond installed red rock rip-rap (to match the surrounding Sedona red rock) at crucial hillside drainage points to prevent erosion from the heavy downhill water flow.

PHASE 2: MILL & PAVE

Once the new drainage system was in place, Diamond began milling the top layer of asphalt at 3 inches of depth. Then, we repaved the entire 115,000-square-foot area. The terrain was steep but our crews were up for the challenge.

PHASE 3: FRESH LINES

The final phase pulled the project together for a beautiful finish. We painted fresh lines across the parking lot including 17 ADA parking stalls.

ONE YEAR LATER

One year after the project was completed, Diamond returned to Bell Rock Plaza to sealcoat the parking lot as part of a proper maintenance schedule. The sealcoating will help protect the asphalt from the hot Arizona sun and extend the life of the pavement.

Solving A Drainage Dilemma

Without intervention, the water issues at Bell Rock Plaza would have caused major long-term damage to the structural integrity of their pavement, not to mention the ongoing headache of dealing with a flooded parking lot. Thankfully, they found a solution!

“The drainage system is working flawlessly,” now according to the property manager and the new pavement is "beautiful."
