Project Summary
Outdoor storage space is at the heart of business for Sun Gro. They're the leading supplier of peat moss and horticultural growing products in North America.
Their storage facility near Greenville, SC had a problem. Water was pooling after rain plus the soil was constantly wet and unstable. Product was being lost because of the water and the working conditions were extremely messy.
The solution was simple: concrete storage pads.
Executing The Project
PHASE 1: PLANNING
Engineering work ensured proper drainage design and a functional overall layout.
Two storage pads were needed on this project.
- 60,000 Square Feet (New Pad)
- 7,000 Square Feet (Upgraded Pad)
PHASE 2: EXCAVATE
Every good storage pad (or parking lot) begins with a strong base. We cleared out 12-inches of soft soil across 67-thousand square feet to prepare each paving area for the new base material.
PHASE 3: INSTALL BASE
12-inches of crushed concrete was then installed across 67-thousand square feet. The crushed concrete is very stable and excellent for drainage below the surface. The material was graded and compacted ahead of the final phase.
PHASE 4: INSTALL CONCRETE
67-thousand square feet of concrete was poured at a depth of 8-inches across the two paving areas. The concrete mix was reinforced with commercial grade fiber that helps reduce cracking while also boosting the strength of the storage pads.
Concrete Storage Pads Keeping Things Dry
Project solutions aren't always this "cut and dry" but when the results are this good it's an obvious win. The concrete storage pads are working exactly as intended for Sun Gro. We're told operations are running more efficiently and the concrete pads have brought considerable savings now that their product is better protected.
